» Profile

Cancionero came together in 1997 to perform the songs and dance music of the Middle Ages and also early Renaissance music from the Tudor court. Using a range of fascinating period instruments our professional performances are enjoyed by children and adults alike.

Programmes are available with 2 to 4 performers, and offer a unique opportunity to experience this bright and enjoyable repertoire. Our carefully researched programmes use readings to complement the music and create an added sense of history, but we always seek to entertain! We are happy to devise programmes to suit any audience, or to link to the history of a location.

Performances in period costume, encouraging audience dancing, at Penshurst Place and Tudor workshops for schools have been a regular feature. The group has also been featured on Radio Kent and on Radio 4s Open Country.

» Feedback

"For those of us new to Medieval Music performances the evening was a delight and a revelation. Those I spoke to who are already aficionados felt the combination of Cancionero and the Crypt was an absolute treat."
- Lambeth concert 2005.

"...the wonderful musical entertainment you provided to an enthralled audience at Barming"

» Wedding package

With Tudor and Medieval minstrels. We can provide music for ceremonies, receptions and dancing. With the following instruments: lutes, harpsichord, hurdy gurdy, bagpipes, recorders and crumhorns! The harpsichord brings dignity to the ceremony, while the lute and recorder make beautiful background music. The louder instruments are splendid for dance music.
